How to get rid of Stretch Marks during Pregnancy

50 to 90 % of women get stretch marks on their bellies during their fetal development. As the fetus grows in the uterus.  Layers of the skin or connective tissue get thin and lose their elasticity beyond the limit as  well as its colour (reddish, purple, pink) and form long reddened or white streaks.

Apart from gestation, these marks can appear on any part of your body for several reasons such as gaining weight to losing weight, sudden growth or any kind of medications side effects. here I am sharing some effective home remedies that make your stretch scars less noticeable.


Apply any of the following

  • Potato juice and honey
  • Lemon juice and yoghurt
  • Aloe gel and coconut water
  • Sandal powder and turmeric
  • Sugar and vitamin E oil

Combination of three essential oils works wonders in stretch marks

A combination of an equal amount of olive, coconut and argan oils can do amazing in stretch marks. Consuming olive in the daily diet prevents many health problems. Rich healthy olive oil contains a large amount of antioxidants and  a good source of vitamin E. Olive lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, prevents blood clotting and boosts neuro functions. Applying olive oil may help in a good healthy appearance of skin too. It  also smoothens the outer layer of the epidermis.

Coconut fat easily absorbs into the skin and increases collagen productions. Adding virgin coconut oil into stretch marks skin regimens can speed up lightning marks of stretches. Research done in 2016 found that argan oil can help in increasing skin elasticity. So here is a recipe

Take a small bowl to add 2 tablespoons of Olive oil

2 tablespoons of Coconut oil

2 tablespoons of Argan oil mix these oils and store in a clean glass jar. Spray little water on your belly and let it dry, now take a generous amount of this oil and massage and let your skin absorb and leave it on overnight.

Potato juice and honey

 As we all know potatoes are famous for skin lightening properties. Wash and peel one large potato, squeeze the juice and add two tablespoons of raw honey and chickpea flour, combine everything and make a nice creamy paste and apply this potato honey paste on stretch marks. Leave it for 10 – 15 minutes and rinse it with cold water.

Potato enzymes help in reducing stretch scars and honey moisture your skin naturally. Do this before showering.

Lemon juice and yoghurt

Refreshing yellow citrus fruit lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants property which protect cells from free radicals. Act as a natural bleaching agent. Yoghurt contains lactic acid. A combination of acidic fruit and yoghurt can help you in getting rid of the most stubborn stretch marks. All you need is a little patience and regularity in stretch marks regimens.

In a clean bowl add 2 tablespoons of yoghurt and ½ lemon juice, mix – mix -mix and apply this paste to your stretch scars and leave it for 10 – 12 minutes. Then rinse with cold water.

 Avoid using soap and warm water. After cleaning apply a good moisturiser, do this for at least 3 days for quick results.

Aloe gel and coconut water

Aloe vera is rich in glucomannan and gibberellin properties which is highly beneficial in collagen production and smoothen skin texture and prevent stretch marks. Combining aloe with coconut water can be another very good and powerful home treatment that can help you in getting soft, clear healthy skin. Coconut water is a good source of multivitamins such as vitamin C, A, K, B2 and  B3 which help in increasing skin elasticity and production of collagen.

Take fresh thick aloe vera leaves, wash and clean dirt and get rid of yellow-tinted resin which contains latex. Wash aloe vera leaf in running water to prevent any itchy or irritations.  Trim edges carefully with a knife as it is very slimy. Cut it into half and scoop out the gel. Add coconut water to blend it properly. Apply this mixture to your belly scars.l eave it for 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.

Sandalwood-powder and turmeric

Indian women are fond of sandalwood powder. Indian weddings are incomplete without “INDIAN – HALDI KI RASAM”  rituals from marriage ceremonies to medicinal use. The benefits of antibacterial sandalwoods are incredible. It helps in lightening scars, preventing blackheads and regular use of sandalwood powder can help in getting rid of Acne too. Another most favourite kitchen ingredient or probably herb turmeric powder is magic to include in skin regimens. Turmeric powder not only lightens the skin but is also good for the skin in many ways for example it boosts immunity, help in weight loss, good for several skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, acne. etc.

Take one teaspoon of sandalwood powder in a clean small mixing bowl, add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder and make a semi-thick paste using raw milk little by little. Apply this paste on your stretch marks and leave it for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse it once it is dry. Massage with essential oil or coconut oil just after washing for soft moist skin. Do this twice a week.

Sugar and vitamin E oil

Sugar granules are good for skin and it is clinically proven that sugar can prevent stretch marks. Adding vitamin E oil with sugar can do wonders for the skin. Vitamin E oil is thick and acts as a lightening as well as a moisturising agent, helpi and preventing stretch scars.

 Take ½ cup of small granules of sugar and add 2 tablespoons of coconut or olive oil. combine sugar and oil add 2 capsules of vitamin E and scrub with a light hand do not rub it. Do massage in a circular motion at least 7 – 10 minutes maximum. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Eating a well-balanced diet and increasing vitamin C and Amino acid in foods can boost the production of Collagen and Hyaluronic acid in your body which is essential for good healthy skin.
